Rutgers Global Health Institute warmly welcomes William F. Tate IV, who will begin serving as the 22nd president of Rutgers University on July 1, 2025. A renowned social scientist and current president of the Louisiana State University system, Dr. Tate brings a distinguished interdisciplinary background that closely aligns with our mission at Rutgers Global Health Institute.

As president of LSU, Dr. Tate also held faculty appointments in sociology, psychiatry and behavioral medicine, epidemiology, and population and public health—across multiple campuses and health centers, including Pennington Biomedical Research Center. His leadership in both academic and clinical settings reflect a deep understanding of the connection between education, research, and health equity.

With advanced degrees in economics, mathematics education, and psychiatric epidemiology, Dr. Tate has long championed innovative and inclusive approaches to higher education. We look forward to his vision and leadership as Rutgers continues to expand its impact in health equity, both here and around the world.
