Global health is a field that prioritizes health equity. That means addressing health inequities—and the social and environmental variables that shape them—wherever they exist.

During Rutgers Giving Days, we came together as a community to support Rutgers Global Health Institute’s efforts toward cancer equity, local health equity, and global health equity. Through the March 20–21 fundraising event, the institute raised $30,550 for three funds:

  • The Botswana-Rutgers Partnership for Health Fund supports the institute’s efforts to confront the cancer crisis in the sub-Saharan African country of Botswana. Already, this work has begun addressing cancer disparities in other countries in the region.
  • The Health Equity in New Jersey Fund supports the institute’s efforts to confront health disparities, including social and environmental determinants of health, in New Jersey’s low-income and minority communities.
  • The Rutgers Global Health Institute Program Fund helps the institute drive health equity solutions, locally and worldwide, through research, partnership, and capacity building.

Donor support—during Rutgers Giving Days and throughout the year—helps the institute expand health equity efforts to reach more people, pursue new avenues of problem solving, and deliver transformative solutions.
