Funded by Global Health Seed Grants, five faculty-led efforts will address disparities related to adolescent pregnancy and sexual health information, immigrant health care access, tuberculosis disease prevention, health communication training, and dementia among indigenous older adults.
Wilfred Ngwa develops technologies that integrate with radiation therapy to improve cancer treatment. He also chairs the Lancet Oncology commission on cancer in sub-Saharan Africa and advises the Biden Administration. He will be a professor of global health and radiation oncology.
The program, called Cancer Kitso, is being developed by the Botswana-Rutgers Partnership for Health to educate health care workers about cancer care and prevention. Pharmacists Joyce Kgatlwane and Jiyeon Joy Park discuss their involvement.
Among the many impacts of a new partnership between Rutgers and Botswana will be improved cancer care and prevention. Because a key challenge in Botswana is workforce capacity in the health sector, an early action item will be to train more clinicians to provide the specialized medical services that are needed in oncology and related fields.
