A free seminar on the global health challenges surrounding mental health care. Livestream available.
Rutgers Global Health Institute and the School of Public Health’s Department of Urban-Global Public Health present a seminar with Azan Nyundo, MD, MMed, on the global shortage of health workers trained in mental health.
Often overlooked, psychiatric and mental health care is a global health challenge that affects many countries. With a population of 57 million people, Tanzania, like many other countries, is experiencing a shortage of psychiatric and mental health care providers. Dr. Nyundo will share his perspective on the current state of mental health care in Tanzania and discuss his vision for equipping the next generation of practitioners through global mental health education and training.
Dr. Nyundo serves as head of the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Dodoma’s College of Health Sciences in Tanzania, overseeing education for medical and nursing students. In fall 2019, he will launch Tanzania’s second psychiatry residency program to further increase the number of specialists who can lead this field into the future.
Opportunities to connect and collaborate with the University of Dodoma, a Rutgers partnership site, will also be discussed.
Free and open to Rutgers faculty, staff, clinicians, and students.
