September 15, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

The Center for Public Health Workforce Development at the School of Public Health is hosting a webinar at 12 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

Titled “Democracy and Power: Why Voting Matters for Our Health,” the webinar features a presentation by Jeanne Ayers, the executive director of Healthy Democracy, Healthy People.

From the event description: What do democracy and power have to do with health and health equity? And what role can public health play in promoting inclusive democratic practices? Jeanne Ayers, RN, MPH, executive director of Healthy Democracy, Healthy People will answer these questions and address conceptual frameworks and practices aimed at improving the health of people in our democracy and the health of democracy itself.

Healthy Democracy, Healthy People is a coalition of major public health and civic engagement groups working to ensure voting access for all eligible voters. The webinar will introduce the coalition’s Health and Democracy Index, designed to provide a shared health equity analysis of voting policies and serve as a tool to strengthen civic and voter participation, as well as review strategies and tools to promote inclusive democratic practices in public health practice.
