Michael Steinberg, MD, MPH, is professor and chief in the Division of General Internal Medicine and vice chair for research at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Steinberg’s ongoing research includes evaluating various tobacco treatment interventions, and he is currently conducting an National Cancer Institute-funded study of physicians’ communications regarding e-cigarettes.

He is also director of the Rutgers Tobacco Dependence Program, which has treated more than 6,000 smokers since 2001 and has trained more than 2,000 health professionals from more than 40 states and 11 countries as tobacco treatment specialists. Most recently, Steinberg has focused his tobacco education efforts at training healthcare providers in underserved countries, such as Botswana, to help them deliver evidence-based tobacco treatment to their communities.
