Charles Senteio

Associate Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, School of Communication and Information

Charles Senteio is a health informatics researcher focused on improving chronic disease outcomes for underserved populations. His community-based research addresses persistent health care disparities, and he is interested in using both existing and emerging technology to support underserved populations.

His funded chronic-conditions investigations include HIV/STIs, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and breast and prostate cancer. He has led research projects in Flint and Detroit, Michigan; Dallas, Texas; and central New Jersey.

Senteio also has health research collaborations in Ghana and Senegal. In Ghana, he is collaborating with a medical director in Techiman to enhance individuals’ ability to determine which urgent care facility to go to and how to best get to it. He is partnering with health care operations faculty at Rutgers Business School–Newark and New Brunswick to simulate demand. In Senegal, he has partnered for several years to support the assessment and dissemination of lessons learned for behavioral and pharmaceutical interventions to promote HIV/STI education and prevention.
