Donald Nyangahu
Donald Nyangahu, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and a resident faculty member at the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine. His research is focused on the gut microbiome in infants and its influence on inflammation, gut health and vaccine immune response.
He is particularly interested in infants that are HIV exposed but uninfected (iHEU), as these infants often display an altered immune profile when compared to those that are not exposed to HIV. He is collaborating with colleagues from the Kenya Medical Research Institute and Egerton University in Kenya to establish an infant cohort of iHEU for his study, which aims to assess gut microbiota and vaccine responses in Kenyan infants. Through these partnerships, he hopes to contribute to a deeper understanding how early-life microbiota shape immune outcome in iHEU.
