The Department of Surgery at New Jersey Medical School is holding grand rounds at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
Tamara Fitzgerald will present “KeyScope: Making Laparoscopy Accessible and Sustainable in Uganda.” Fitzgerald is an associate professor of surgery and global health at Duke University and Duke Global Health Institute. Her work focuses on surgical capacity building and surgical technology for low-income settings. She has several ongoing projects regarding the burden of surgical disease for patients and their families in low- and middle-income countries, surgical training, and cost-effective technology solutions. In 2022, Fitzgerald received the inaugural Global Surgery Scholar Award from the Society of University Surgeons, for which Rutgers Global Health Institute core faculty member and medical school professor Ziad Sifri is chair of the academic global surgery committee.
