Violence Against Women in Diverse Populations

The School of Social Work is holding a continuing education webinar at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. The following information is from the event description on the school’s website:
Recognizing the critical impact that issues of race, culture, sexual orientation, religious identity, ability, and other diverse identities has on victims’ experiences of violence, this webinar provides a first glimpse into the issues of violence against women within some immigrant communities, especially Latino(a), Asian, and Black immigrants. Participants will learn strategies for addressing the various obstacles or issues that victims face in accessing services and negotiating the various support systems.
Webinar Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
• define domestic violence and intimate partner violence (IPV).
• explain how domestic violence affects Latino, Asian, and Black communities.
• identify some strategies to address some obstacles that victims face in accessing domestic violence services.
The webinar instructor is Monica C. Roldan, LCSW, a psychotherapist licensed in New York and New Jersey. In her career, Roldan always has focused her efforts on working with women, specifically Latina women survivors of gender-based violence, trauma, rape, childhood abuse, prostitution, and trafficking. An expert on issues regarding mental health and immigrant struggles, she has a deep understanding of the migration process and its unique stressors.
