Second Annual Global Health Conference

Rutgers Global Health Institute director Richard Marlink is a featured speaker at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso Second Annual Global Health Conference on December 11. This educational conference, presented virtually via Webex, is designed to emphasize transnational health issues, determinants, and solutions that will enhance interdisciplinary collaborations in global health. Featured speakers include Ronald J. Waldman, George Washington University; Michael Bisesi, The Ohio State University; Richard Marlink, Rutgers; Hector I. Ocaranza, City of El Paso, Texas; and Travis Cosban, The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus. The conference poster session will follow the featured presentations.
Marlink’s presentation is titled “Transforming Cancer Care and Prevention in Sub-Saharan Africa.” He will review the public health approaches that would support cancer control interventions in that region. The scale-up of existing cancer programs in order to create national access for screening, treatment, and follow-up will be discussed, as will how to leverage lessons learned from the HIV epidemic to integrate oncology services within existing healthcare delivery systems.
