“Rondon Project: Strengthening Leadership and Social Accountability in the Brazilian Amazon”
Presented by Mara Rúbia A A de Lima – Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the medical school’s Office of Global Health
Objectives:
• To share the history of the Rondon Project, a 50-year-old community service project designed for higher education students
• To discuss the impact of this UN 2030 Agenda-aligned project on health, education, culture, and human rights in low-resource settings
• To reflect about the lessons learned by the Rondonistas from Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, Brazil, and about the program’s sustainability
Fulbright Visiting Scholar Mara Rúbia A A de Lima is a professor at Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre, Brazil. She also is a TEDx speaker on the Brazilian Rondon Project; director of youth services, Rotary Porto Alegre Gloria-Teresópolis, District 4680; and regional director for South America, Welcome Clubs International, an organization in special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2020.
