A screening and discussion of the Oscar-winning film, Period. End of Sentence.
Rayka Zehtabchi is the director of the Oscar-winning short documentary, Period. End of Sentence. The film tells the story of a group of village women in northern India who start a sanitary pad-making business in an effort to improve feminine hygiene and destigmatize menstruation. Along with the film’s release, Rayka helped cofound The Pad Project, a nonprofit aimed at fighting the stigma of menstruation and improving feminine hygiene worldwide.
The 26-year-old Iranian-American director, who is based in Los Angeles, is at Rutgers for the 2019 Anita Ashok Datar Lecture on Women’s Global Health. This annual event draws to campus groundbreaking pioneers, researchers, field workers, and activists to explore growing international health challenges and the vital role that the United States and leaders from across the globe must continue to play in addressing them.
Cosponsored by the Institute for Women’s Leadership, Rutgers Global, and Douglass Residential College, this event is free and open to Rutgers faculty, staff, and students.
