Introduction to a Heat Vulnerability Index for New Jersey

March 24, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The Rutgers New Jersey Climate Change Resource Center is holding a Climate Academy webinar at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023.

The webinar will feature presentations by center personnel James Shope, applied climatologist, and Pritpal Bamhrah, senior research specialist, about the center’s recently released Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI) for New Jersey. Shope and Bamhrah will review how this HVI can help New Jersey communities, policymakers, local officials, and other practitioners identify which communities may be more at risk during extreme heat and what factors contribute to vulnerability. The webinar also will cover how the HVI is constructed, how to apply the index, and why it’s necessary to consider heat vulnerability in New Jersey’s climate future. The webinar also will include an opportunity to ask questions and provide input about how the HVI could be used in New Jersey.
