The Humanities Action Lab at the School of Arts and Sciences–Newark and the Institute for the Study of Global Racial Justice are collaborating with national partners to hold an event on Thursday, October 26, 2023, in Newark. The following is from the event description:
Organizers, scholars, and students from 10 communities at the forefront of the climate crisis will unite for the Communities Joining Forces national convening. The event aims to foster collaboration and the sharing of knowledge to collectively address the pressing climate crisis. Participants hailing from diverse regions, ranging from Merced, California, to Magaguez, Puerto Rico, will converge in Newark to exchange stories and strategies while establishing connections with their peers nationwide.
The program for the day includes discussions on designing a trans-local campus, where students, scholars, and organizers from across the country can learn from and support each other. Additionally, participants will engage in the development of a collective public memory project that interconnects their stories, fostering a sense of collective action and solidarity.
This national convening serves as a vital platform for those on the front lines of the climate crisis to collaborate, learn from each other’s experiences, and work together to create a more sustainable future. It promises to be a dynamic and insightful gathering of passionate individuals committed to addressing the challenges of climate change.
Free and open to the Rutgers community and Humanities Action Lab national affiliates. Register online to attend (required). For more information, visit the event webpage or contact the Humanities Action Lab.
