Joseph Hanna
Joseph Hanna, MD, PhD, FACS, joined the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Surgery in 2013. He is an acute care surgeon and is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. His clinical areas of expertise include the management of intra-abdominal sepsis, necrotizing pancreatitis, application of damage control concepts in emergency general surgery, and complex abdominal and chest wall reconstruction. His research interests include topics in emergency and trauma surgery, quality improvement, academic global surgery, and health system science.
Through the Rutgers Global Surgery program, he has worked to strengthen emergency and essential surgical care in Colombia in partnership with the Ministry of Health and a multidisciplinary team of clinical and public health stakeholders from across the country. He serves as a mentor to U.S. and Colombian learners working together across the Americas to develop and implement methods of surgical system science to promote timely access to affordable surgical, obstetric, and anesthesia care when needed.
