Antonio Calcado

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey

Antonio (Tony) Calcado serves as executive vice president and chief operating officer for all of Rutgers, including the academic health campus and health care system. He leads Institutional Planning and Operations, managing a $500 million operating budget for vital resources and programs, including systemwide auxiliary, housing system, retail, facilities, transportation, capital planning and construction, environmental health and safety, and emergency services. He is responsible for delivering support services aligned with the university’s goals and commitment to teaching, research, service, and clinical care.

Notable among his accomplishments are leading and coordinating the university’s successful and nationally recognized response to the COVID-19 pandemic; leveraging university assets in economic development; and creating transformative public-private partnerships, which has included serving as a steering team lead for the largest university integration in U.S. history, the merger of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey into Rutgers.
