A free documentary screening and panel discussion on breastfeeding in the African American community.
Rutgers’ New Jersey Medical School and University Hospital in Newark present a screening of Chocolate Milk®: the Documentary, an exploration of the racial divide in breastfeeding. Told through the stories of three women, the documentary explores breastfeeding’s decline among African American women and the undue health burdens it places on infants. (Breastfeeding can reduce the risk of asthma, cancer, chronic disease, and obesity, and contribute other health benefits.) The film also addresses the struggle to bring breastfeeding back as a cultural norm within the African American community.
A panel discussion will begin immediately following the screening.
