Rutgers School of Nursing and Rutgers New Jersey Medical School present a lunchtime lecture by Denis O’Connell about his work in Dodoma, Tanzania.
Dr. O’Connell is a graduate of the Medical School at the University of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy, and completed a pediatric residency at the Jersey City Medical Center. He was the director of the pediatric outpatient department at the Jersey City Medical Center from 1989 to 1997. From 1997 to 2014, he was employed as a medical director at BCBSNC. Since then, he has done volunteer work in Morocco, Tanzania, Senegal, Nepal, Vietnam, Ecuador, and Guatemala. In September 2017, he began volunteering with the Global Health Services/Peace Corps Program at the University of Dodoma in Tanzania. He has stayed on since the end of that program in Tanzania and divides his time between two regional hospitals, Dodoma and Iringa.
Free and open to Rutgers faculty, students, and residents. Pizza will be provided.
