The Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research (IFH) presents a brown bag seminar by Rutgers faculty members Frank Thompson and Michael Gusmano.
Thompson is a Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Public Affairs and Administration in IFH’s Center for State Health Policy. Gusmano, who received a 2017 Rutgers Global Health Institute seed grant, is an associate professor and director of the health systems and policy concentration in the School of Public Health and is a core faculty member of both IFH and Rutgers Global Health Institute.
In the seminar, “Termites at the Foundation? The Future of the Affordable Care Act,” Thompson and Gusmano will call upon their expertise in a range of topic areas—spanning politics and administration, policy implementation, public management, federalism and intergovernmental management, health policy, health care equity, aging, and health care for undocumented immigrants—to discuss the current national policy and consider the future.
Thompson is the author of Medicaid Politics: Federalism, Policy Durability, and Health Reform, a book that assesses the policy and political dynamics that fueled the dramatic expansion of Medicaid and established it as a key pillar of the Affordable Care Act. Gusmano has codirected the World Cities Project, the first effort to compare the performance of health, social, and long-term care systems in New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo, the four largest cities among the wealthy nations of the world.
