The Environmental Stewards program at Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station is hosting a webinar at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, as part of its Earth Day, Every Day Webinar Series.
“The Costs of Climate Change” will feature a discussion led by climate scientist Robert Kopp, professor and co-director of the university’s Office of Climate Action, about what we know about climate change’s economic costs and how we can manage the risks climate change is creating.
Climate change is causing more intense heat waves, more intense rainfall, and higher coastal flooding, causing economic harms around the world, including in New Jersey. Kopp is a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s 2021 Sixth Assessment Report. According to the report, scientists are observing changes in the Earth’s climate in every region across the whole climate system, and many of these changes are unprecedented in thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of years.
In addition to his leadership role within the university’s climate action office, Kopp is a professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences in the School of Arts and Sciences and a core faculty member of Rutgers Global Health Institute. He directs the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub, a National Science Foundation-funded, 12-university consortium led by Rutgers, as well as Rutgers’ transdisciplinary Coastal Climate Risk and Resilience training initiative.
Free and open to the public. Advance registration required (Zoom login access will be provided to registered attendees). For more information, visit the event webpage or email bakacs@njaes.rutgers.edu.
