Peter Vuylsteke

Senior Lecturer in Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine – School of Medicine, University of Botswana

Peter Vuylsteke is an internist and medical oncologist. In his role as the global outreach facilitator for the Botswana-Rutgers Partnership for Health, he serves as a training and clinical research specialist in support of ongoing initiatives related to cancer care and prevention and COVID-19 in Botswana. He leads efforts to design and implement health care trainingincluding medical subspecialty and health professions training programs, telementoring, and distance education. 

Vuylsteke has more than 20 years of patient care experience, which includes serving as chair of the Department of Hemato-Oncology at UCLouvain Namur Hospital in Belgium for eight years. He is the immediate past president of the Belgian Society of Medical Oncology and a faculty member of the European Society for Medical Oncology. He has published more than 40 works in peerreviewed journals. He has mentorestudents and resident doctors in biomedical sciences and medical oncology, as well as co-supervised PhD students in breast cancer research.  

He received a medical degree from Louvain KULeuven University in Belgium, where he also completed training in internal medicine and medical oncology.
