Racquel (Kelly) Kohler uses theories and methods from health services research and behavioral sciences to improve cancer prevention and control among marginalized populations. Her research program analyzes patient, health system, and social barriers and facilitators to care, and then evaluates whether targeted interventions increase access to and use of cancer services.

Kohler focuses on breast and cervical cancer early detection and screening, mainly HPV testing implementation. Her studies test different cancer education programs, screening strategies, result-delivery models, and follow-up navigation. She also works on projects related to sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention and treatment, and cancer treatment services in Argentina, Botswana, India, and Malawi, and among individuals experiencing homelessness in the United States.
