Chongyi Wei’s main research interests focus on reducing disparities in HIV infection among sexual minority men, particularly in China and other parts of southeast Asia. His work has included conducting extensive HIV behavioral epidemiology, examining acceptability and feasibility of innovative prevention strategies, and developing and evaluating individual- and community-based intervention trials among sexual minority men in China/Asia.

He has been principal investigator of two National Institute of Mental Health-funded studies (R00MH093201; R34MH109359) to increase HIV testing uptake among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Nanjing, China, and co-principal investigator of an National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases study (R01AI114301; Tucker/Wei) to increase HIV testing and strengthen linkage to care among young MSM through crowdsourcing in Guangdong and Shandong provinces, China.
